The Stage of Stars Museum features interesting memorabilia including instruments, clothing and photographs of many of the stars who have performed there over the years.
As a neighbor to Texas, it is inevitable that Shreveport-Bossier has a bit of East Texas flair to complement its Louisiana flavor. The R.W. Norton Art Gallery is the ideal place to get a feel for the Old West. The gallery exhibits paintings, watercolors, drawings, sculptures, and personal writings from renowned western artists Frederic Remington and Charles M. Russell.
The 8th Air Force Museum at Barksdale Air Force Base is a journey through the dynamic history of strategic bombardment. Three-thousand feet of displays take the visitor on an historic journey from World War I to the present. The museum features uniforms, dioramas and even authentic barracks as they were in peacetime and wartime. Also on display are more than a dozen actual aircraft dating back to World War II.
Imagination is the key at the hands-on Sci-Port Discovery Center in Shreveport. Opening November 18, 2006, Sci-Port will be home to the worldÕs first open-access, interactive Space Dome Planetarium as part of their exciting new Space Center! Add to that a sixty-seven thousand-square-foot display area and IMAX Dome Theater and there's fun for everyone. Like the universe itself, the Discovery Center will be continually evolving. Parents and children can challenge their creative thinking and problem-solving skills, generating excitement that lasts long after the visit has ended.
Performing arts play a role in Shreveport-Bossier's cultural heritage as well. A prime example is the elegant Strand Theatre. Originally built in 1925 by the Saenger Brothers, the theatre was used as an opera house and movie palace.
