Marshall, "Wonderland of Lights", is located in the piney woods of East Texas. This prestigious All-American City and picturesque county offers much in the way of scenic beauty. Marshall is an area second to none in its offering to the sports enthusiast including watersports at nearby Caddo Lake and Lake O' the Pines.

Founded in 1841, Marshall, located in the piney woods of East Texas with intersecting US Hwys. 59 and 80 and Interstate 20, is near Caddo Lake and the Louisiana border. This prestigious All-American City and picturesque county seat of historic Harrison County, offers much in the way of scenic beauty with its tall stately pines, rolling hills, pine thickets and abundance of wildflowers.

This unique East Texas community of 24,000 is a history buff's delight, with more than 100 historical markers and medallions with several listed in the National Register of Histrorical Places. Marshall is an area second to none in its offering to the sports enthusiast including tennis, bowling and golf, as well as fishing, hunting, camping, and watersports at nearby Caddo Lake and Lake O' the Pines - two of the best fishing lakes in Texas.

Annual events include the Tennessee Walking Horse Show in Spring, Josey's World Championship Junior Barrel Race and Stagecoach Day in May, the Fire Ant Festival in October, and the Wonderland of Lights Christmas Festival Thanksgiving thru Dec. 30th.

Sports

Horseracing at nearby Lousiana Downs Racetrack. Riverboat Casinos only 35 minutes from Marshall. (Collegiate) East Texas Baptist University, football, basketball and baseball; Wiley College, basketball and baseball. Texas State Technical College.

Hosts an array of performing arts. Seats 1600, Civic Center for trade shows, conventions.

Marshall Regional Arts Council

Caddo Lake State Park
Rt. 2 Box 15, Karnack. (903) 679-3351. 14 miles NE of Marshall on Highway 43, then East 5 miles on FM2198. The South's largest natural lake; virtual maze of channels & bayous, cypress trails. Open year round.

Ginocchio Hotel
Old railroad hotel, listed in the National Register of Historic Places and recently restored to its earlier splendor is now the home to Harrison County Historical Museum. (903) 938-2680. Features exhibits from "homefolks" Lady Bird Johnson, Bill Moyers, Y.A. Tittle, Susan Howard and George Foreman as well as exhibits from stagecoach days to the spaceage. Open year round.

Michelson Museum of Art
Downtown Marshall, (903) 935-9480. Features a collection of the works of Russian-American Artist Leio Michelson valued at $1.5 million.

Josey Ranch
Hwy. 43, 6 miles NW of Marshall. (903) 935-9279. Calf roping & barrel racing school. Open year round, tours by appointment.

T. C. Lindsey Store
Jonesville, TX 75659. Located on FM 134 two miles north of US 80, 2 miles west of Louisiana Line. (903) 687-3382. Step back in time to late 1840's for a visit to the general store.

STARR Family State Historical Park

Scottsville Cemetery
FM Road 1998, north of Marshall. One of the most beautiful historic cemeteries in the entire South.

Marshall Texas and Pacific Depot Museum and Amtrack Station
N. Washington. Features collections of T&P memorabilia plus a model train exhibit. Next to Ginocchio Hotel. (903) 938-9495.

Marshall Visual Arts Center
Where local artists can show their works, plus various art classes are taught throughout the year. Located downtown Marshall.

Marshall City Arena
Highway 43 N. Hosts several events throughout the year from calf roping, barrel racing, horseshows, concerts, plus other activities. (903) 935-4504.
