Founded by Dutch immigrants in 1898. Population approximately 20,000. Located in the middle of Jefferson County on U.S. 69 and SH 347, adjacent to the Airport.
A residential city with an accredited school system, Nederland boasts 26 churches, shopping centers, and 3 motels.
Attractions include the 20 acre Doornbos Park, with pool, tennis court, playground. Rienstra Heritage Nature Park. Close to saltwater fishing & boating; 45 minutes from Sea Rim State Park.
A replica of a Dutch Windmill houses a museum honoring the Dutch Heritage and mementos of Tex Ritter, who called Nederland his home. A small park where the Dutch Museum, the Ritter memorial marker and a French Museum are located has been designated Tex Ritter Park.
La Maison Acadienne Museum is a replica of Southern Louisiana French homes. Admission free in both museums, open most afternoons 1 pm - 5 pm, special tours by appointment.
